My principal research interest lie in the area of Red Sea Zooplankton. I am currently investigating the anthropogenic and climate change induced impacts on Red Sea Zooplankton. Taxonomy of zooplankton and describing the taxonomic characters of larval forms of Red Sea brachyuran decapods are also my current area of research.

The Plankton Research Group formed under my leadership at King Abdulaziz University consists of researchers from different countries mainly investigating the impacts of UV-B and warming on Red Sea Zooplankton. Also initiated international research projects in collaboration with research institutes such as GEOMAR ( Kiel, Germany), Senckenberg Nature Research Society ( Frankfurt, Germany) and Motes Marine Laboratory (US).
